Claiming enhancements for civil (non-family) legal aid work

Purpose: To guide barristers on the process of claiming enhancements to some of hte prescribed rates for civil (non-family) legal aid work

The prescribed rates for civil (non-family) legal aid work can be found below.  The important dates are:

  • Where funded services are provided under a certificate dated on or before 2 October 2011 (or where (a) the application for the certificate was signed before 3 October 2011; and (b) the application was received by the Legal Aid Agency before 11 October 2011): no prescribed rates.
  • Where funded services are provided under a certificate dated on or after 3 October 2011 but before 2 December 2013: 2011 Statutory Instrument, Schedule 7 [page 16]
  • Where funded services are provided under a certificate dated on or after 2 December 2013 (subject to transitional provisions in respect of certain applications made before 2 December 2013 and in respect of further work under certificates already issued prior to that date): 2013 Statutory Instrument , Schedule 1 [page 5]
